Border Security Alliance Praises Appointment of Pete Vasquez as Border Patrol Chief

Phoenix, AZ —The Border Security Alliance (BSA) issued the following statements praising the appointment of Rosario “Pete” Vasquez as Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol:

Having served as Chief of Police in Spokane, Washington, I have seen firsthand the unique challenges facing our northern border, including in the Blaine Sector. As criminal organizations increasingly exploit vulnerabilities along our 5,525-mile northern border to traffic narcotics, illicit goods, and human beings into communities across the country, strong leadership has never been more important. Chief Vasquez's experience in Blaine gives him a unique understanding of these evolving threats, and I am confident he is exceptionally well prepared to lead efforts to secure both our northern and southern borders.” — Craig Meidl, Former Spokane Police Chief and BSA Advisory Council Member

“Conditions along the southern border have dramatically improved over the last 18 months, providing Border Patrol with the opportunity to deploy resources and attention to other areas of concern. Our borders are geographically vast and diverse, and the challenges each border state faces are unique. We are pleased to see Chief Vasquez appointed to this role and look forward to working with his team on addressing the rising threats of illicit trade, human trafficking, and organized crime.”Jobe Dickinson, BSA President

BSA is a national coalition of current and former police chiefs, sheriffs, county officials, public safety leaders and policy experts focused on cross-border trafficking and illicit markets, including counterfeit goods, narcotics precursors and illegal vape products.
